Gabriel Szatan

Actually really, really nice

Track Reviews: 14/10 – 20/10

“It draws an unusual line of best fit between slo-mo techno and the kind of abstract R&B instrumentals dotted across Jai Paul’s leaked mini-album. The most obvious signifiers from the former remain—a clumping thud, encumbered pace, and buzzy atmosphere—but “Rotted Out” is a million miles removed from the greyscale menace of, say, Andy Stott’s clutch of 2011 EPs.”

“The “Extended Dub” of the title track stays true to form, adding the usual elements—crisp hi-hats, robust bass, soft pads—in a linear fashion, mimicking the steady advancement of an assembly-line. That’s no bad thing, mind: the lithe track would fit well with the strong, unassuming DJ tools put out by Kelley Polar in his prime.”
