Actually really, really nice

Blog: Dimensions Festival, Pt.3

“Perhaps the special nature of the twin fests is reflected by the staggering volume of artists not merely treating it as a stop-off in the calendar, but opting instead to stay for as long as scheduling allows. To wit: Andrés, Ossie and the full Eglo contingent bobbing side by side front ‘n centre for Lonnie; Ben UFO’s curiously furrowed brow as he stood next to a speaker stack for Karenn at 5.50am; Model 500 bowling around, engaging every single fan in warm conversation; Omar S affirming his steely visage can indeed drop from time to time and he stood beaming ear-to-ear with Juan Atkins and Gilles Peterson, watching Mala; Mount Kimbie asking directly to come back a third successive year; aforementioned tales of Detroit turning out for Detroit and hip-hop royalty turning out for hip-hop royalty; or just Chunky, 2013′s hardest-working man in showbusiness – calling it – seeming everywhere at once, a grin permanently etched on his face. The turnout was diverse mix of nationalities, cultures and, intriguingly, genders too, the balance being more even-keeled than I figure I’ve ever seen at an electronic event of this calibre. There wasn’t a flicker of ill-temperament the whole fortnight, which made every show seem more communal and tightknit than it was numerically. So hats off on that front. It was as close to flawless as you could wish for.”
